Gaels suffer first three set loss of the season at Nipissing

NORTH BAY, Ont. (November 27, 2016) - The Queen's Gaels (5-4) travelled to North Bay, Ont., on Sunday where they were defeated by the Nipissing Lakers (5-1) in a three straight sets. The scores were 25-17, 25-18, and 25-19 for the hometown Lakers. 

GAME FLOW
Queen's couldn't keep up with Nipissing in the opening set, as the Lakers offence was highly efficient with 13 kills and only one attacking error. After a 4-4 scoreline early in the set, Nipissing jumped ahead to a 9-4 lead and never looked back. The tricolour fell 25-17 to start the match.

In the second set, it was the Gaels ahead 6-5 early, but the Lakers continued to swing with precision, finishing the set with an impressive .609 hitting percentage. By the technical timeout, Nipissing was up 16-9. Despite Queen's best efforts, the Lakers took a 2-0 lead with a 25-18 win.

The third set was the Gaels best, and the score was back and forth for the first half of play. After Dylan Hunt (Aurora, Ont.) hit a service ace to give Queen's a 15-14 lead, Nipissing scored six straight points take control of the set en route to a 25-19 win in the set and the Lakers fifth 3-0 win of the season.

Zac Hutcheson (Kingston, Ont.) was the team leader in kills with 11 and digs with 6 for Queen's. Jamie Wright (Kingston, Ont.) and Thomas Ellison (Winnipeg) split the Gaels setting duties.

For Nipissing, Steven Wood had a team-high 11 kills, while Mike Ballagh had a game-high 14 digs. Nathan Charron had 31 assists for the Lakers.

UP NEXT
The Gaels will be taking some time off before their next game on January 15, 2017 against at home against RMC. For the regular season RMC has a current record of 2-6.
