Graham's double-double helps Gaels beat Warriors

KINGSTON, Ont. (November 19, 2016) - After a strong first quarter, Queen's (3-1) led the Waterloo Warriors (0-3) for the entire game in a 78-59 victory on Saturday afternoon at the ARC.

Saturday's game also featured Get REAL, which is a student group dedicated to eliminating homophobia and making campus a safe space for all.

GAME FLOW
The Gaels jumped out to a 25-13 lead by the end of the first quarter, highlighted by a spinning fade-away from Sukhpreet Singh (Toronto). Russell Winters (Long Island, NY) also contributed five straight points for Queen's on a bucket and a three-pointer. Singh, one of two fifth-years on the team, led all scorers after 10 minutes with seven for the tricolour. Waterloo cut the deficit at the buzzer with Korbil Gany hitting his team's only three of the game.

In the second quarter, Tanner Graham (Kingston, Ont.) came to life, collecting eight points and seven rebounds in the second frame. Graham drained a deep three before following up a missed Queen's attempt with a one-handed dunk. The Gaels transition offence was also on full display, as Vincent Wood (Toronto) sprinted the floor to score a contested layup. Graham had 10 rebounds and nine points at halftime, while Nedim Hodzic led all scorers with 11 points for Waterloo.

Waterloo showed some life coming out of the break, going on a 10-2 run early in the second half, narrowing the gap to just nine points. Queen's got the crowd back into the game with some fast-paced play to close out the third quarter, getting a three-pointer from Richard Iheadindu (Brampton, Ont.) and a layup from Graham in transition to put the tricolour lead back at double-digits. Graham had seven points in the quarter to ensure a double-double, while Mike Pereira scored eight points for Waterloo as he attempted to get the visitors back in the game.

Queen's started the final frame up 61-47, but multiple stops on defence for Waterloo narrowed the gap to single-digits again at 63-54. After Jesse Graham (Kingston, Ont.) got blocked at one end and returned the favour on the following Waterloo possession, Singh finally broke the Gaels drought with a pair of free-throws. Isse Ibrahim (Toronto) got a pair of tough layups to go down the stretch to ensure the tricolour victory, as Queen's went on to win 78-59.

Tanner Graham tied for the game-high in points with 16 to go with a monstrous 16 boards, and was the only player in the game to reach the double-digit mark in rebounds. Tanner was also credited with five blocks and four assists. Singh finished the day with five assists and 12 points, while six points in the fourth quarter brought Ibrahim to 12 points as well.

Waterloo had three players finish in double digits, led by Hodzic's 16 points. The Warriors shooting let them down on Saturday, as they finished 1-18 from the three point line and shot under 50% on three-throws.
