Katharina Holt and
Marianne Alarie each dropped a game-high 14 points, and the Queen's Gaels women's basketball team started off its 2016-17 regular season campaign with a convincing 85-54 victory over the York Lions at the Tait Mackenzie Centre on Friday evening.
GAME FLOW
Holt (Tiny, Ont.) scored 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field, while Alarie (Sudbury, Ont.) was 6-of-13 while adding six rebounds and three steals for the Gaels, who exploded for 25 points in the second quarter to take a commanding 16-point lead into the half-time break.
Fifth-year veteran
Robyn Pearson (Toronto) was just a single rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 12 points and bringing down nine boards in 21 minutes of court time.
Andrea Priamo (Guelph, Ont.) picked up nine points and six boards for Queen's, who shot 41.8% (33-79) from the field and dominated the glass-game, tallying 51 rebounds compared to 30 for the Lions.
The Gaels feasted off York's 22 turnovers, turning those into 31 points, while adding 28 second-chance points off 24 offensive boards.
York shot 29.4% (20-68) from the field and was led by a 13-point performance by Ishanaa Seupersadsingh.
