KINGSTON, Ont. (October 30, 2016) – The Queen's Gaels (3-0-3-0) were defeated 3-1 by the No. 6 Guelph Gryphons (3-1-1-1) on Sunday afternoon at the Memorial Centre.

GAME FLOW
The first period was very even, with both teams finding the back of the net. The Gaels opened the scoring seven minutes in on a power-play goal. After
Katrina Manoukarakis (Scarborough, Ont.) drove the net,
Emily Jukosky (Stirling, Ont.) scored on the rebound with good hands in tight.
Micaela Smith (Cobourg, Ont.) picked up the second assist. The Gryphons responded with back-to-back goals. In the fifteenth minute Katherine Bailey picked up a power-play goal, with Gabrielle Smyth assisting. Guelph took a 2-1 lead in the intermission after Sydney Davidson scored a nice goal off of the rush in the final minute of the period. Brittany St. James assisted on the play.

The second remained scoreless, in spite of a number of chances from both sides. Gaels goaltender
Stephanie Pascal (Val Caron, Ont.) made a number of big saves throughout the period to hold the deficit at 2-1.Â

The third period was once again back and forth. The Gaels had an excellent opportunity on a 5-on-3 powerplay in the eleventh minute, but were unable to capitalize. In the final minute of the game, the Gaels pulled Pascal for an extra attacker, and Guelph was able to respond with an empty net goal from Sophie Contant. Queen's couldn't mount a comeback, leading to a 3-1 Gryphons victory.
