Gaels take home opener against Trent Excalibur 3-0

KINGSTON, Ont. (October 29, 2016)-  The Queen's Gaels (1-0) took on the Trent Excalibur (0-1) in Trent's debut game into OUA play. The Gaels came out on top by dominating the game and winning in three straight sets.

GAME FLOW

The Gaels opened the game strong with great leadership by Caroline Livingston (Kelowna, B.C.) serving five straight and the Gaels taking the first five points of the game. Queen's kept a strong lead with strong hitting by Danielle Corrigan (North Vancouver, B.C), her first game of the regular season with a 0.750 kill percentage for the day.  The Gaels did an excellent job finishing the opening set with 11 kills and an overall kill percentage of .370 taking it 25-9.

In the second set the score went back and forth as the teams were neck and neck throughout the set. By the sixth point the game was being played point for point.  In the end, the Gaels came out on top thanks to a huge kill by Livingston with a set from Sierra Hardy (Oakville, Ont.) ending the second frame with a score of 25-21.

In the third set, the Gaels took the first five points with ease with two kills by Victoria Wensley (Coquitlam, B.C.) and three by Corrigan which led the Excalibur to call a timeout.  Again, the Gaels and the Excalibur started a point for point battle by the technical timeout,  with multiple attack errors by both teams, both were scrambling for a win.  Queen's closed it out with a huge block from Livingston to end the game winning the third and final set 27-25.

FINAL SAY

"I would have liked to see it go a little bit smoother when we were being pushed by Trent and the response to that push, I don't believe we responded early enough and well enough. But a win is a win, and it always makes you feel good to walk away with a W so no complaints there." - Michael Ling
