KINGSTON, Ont. (October 15, 2016) - The Queen's men's rugby team improved to 5-1-1 on the season with a 43-21 homecoming victory over the visiting Brock Badgers (3-4) to stay undefeated at Nixon Field.
GAME FLOW
The Brock Badgers made life difficult for the Gaels early on in their homecoming game at Nixon Field. Just two minutes into the match as fans were getting settled to take in the action, Mitch Langhorn put down a 40 metre try out of a scrum. After a successful conversion it was a 7-0 lead for the visitors.
David Williams (Toronto) and
Kevin Rush (Newmarket, Ont.) responded for the Gaels scoring tries at the 11 and 15 minute marks putting the home team ahead.
After Brock tied the game at 14-14, Â a pair of five metre runs from
Alex Colborne (London) and
Michael Douros (Toronto) put the Gaels back out in front. Ryan Hickey added his second try of the day for the Badgers and at half Queen's held a slight 24-21 edge.
The second half however was all Gaels. 21 points was as far as the Badgers would get and the Gaels scored 19 unanswered points to claim the win 43-21. Colborne,
Evan Underwood (Toronto) and
Angus MacPhail (Vancouver) scored second half tries for Queen's.
