OTTAWA (January 30, 2016) - The Queen's Gaels women's basketball team lost its second game in as many nights on Saturday evening, dropping an 86-66 decision to the Carleton Ravens at the Ravens Nest.
GAME FLOWMarianne Alarie dropped 17 points, shooting an impressive 7-of-10 from the field, which included two three-point baskets, in 23 minutes of court-time off the bench for the Gaels (9-3), who now sit tied with the Ryerson Rams for first place in the OUA East division. The Sudbury, Ont. native worked at her highest offensive efficiency of the year, and tallied 10 or more points for the 10th occasion in conference play.
Andrea Priamo added 15 points, nine of which came from the free-throw line where the Guelph, Ont. product missed just one of her 10 attempts. The Gaels improved upon their offensive play from Friday night, shooting just under 40% from the field, but ran into a hot Carleton offence that worked at a formidable 47.8% efficiency, and 48% from beyond the arc. Stephanie Carr and Nicole Gilmore each tallied a game-high 18 points for the Ravens (8-4), who maintain their second-place standing in the OUA North division after the weekend's play.
The hosts used a dominant opening quarter to take a double-digit lead after the first 10 minutes of the contest by holding Queen's to just 12 points. The Gaels found their offense in the second period, but still faced a 15-point deficit heading into the halftime break. Carleton's offence continued to roll in the final two quarters however, and despite giving up 24 points on 19 turnovers, the Ravens were able to maintain a significant spread throughout the match.
