MONTREALÂ (January 29, 2016) - Queen's (14-7-1) scored two early goals, but fell to the No.6 CIS Ranked McGill (20-5-1) in Montreal Saturday 3-2.
The Gaels come off of an impressive 2-0 win over the No.8 ranked Carleton Ravens at home on Friday night. Kevin Bailie (Belleville, Ont.) was the star of the game as he turned away 39 shots in the shutout win.
Game Flow
Bailie picked up right where he left off, stopping 21 shots in the opening frame. Meanwhile, the offence did the rest of the work for the Gaels. Just over one minute in, Andrew Wiebe (Thunder Bay, Ont.) scored his second goal in as many games to give them a 1-0 lead.
Patrick McGillis (Calgary, Alta.) added an assist on the goal. The two would connect once again in the first period, this time on the power-play, it was McGillis with the goal and Wiebe with one of the assists, Darcy Greenaway (Wilton, Ont.) picked up the other.
Riding a two goal lead into the second, Queen's looked to stay hot while McGill hoped to make a dent in their deficit. The Redmen took advantage of their first man advantage of the game, and cut the Gael lead to one 11:42 in. Then six minutes later they tied it up with a marker by Mathieu Pompei, his 16th of the season.
It was 2-2 heading into the third period, and both teams looked to jump out to take the lead. Each team had their chances but it took 16 minutes before the tie was broken. Pompei was able to beat Bailie to take a 3-2 lead, after a parade to the penalty box for both teams. The Gaels were unable to tie things up and ultimately fell to the Redmen 3-2.
