TORONTO (January 23, 2016)- The Queen's Gaels women's basketball team stretched its season-best winning streak to five games on Saturday afternoon at the Tait Mackenzie Centre in a high-scoring affair, defeating the York Lions by a score of 87-75.

Robyn Pearson. The Toronto native picked up a game-high 15 points, shooting 5-of-6 from the field, and pulled down eight rebounds in helping the CIS No. 9 ranked Gaels continue their strong play in the New Year. Pearson leads all players in the OUA with an average of 12.0 rebounds per game.

Jenny Wright (Kingston) tallied 13 points and seven boards, and
Marianne Alarie (Sudbury, Ont.) and
Myriam Fontaine (Cornwall, Ont.) added 12 and 11 points off the bench for the Gaels, who overcame a double-digit deficit that the home side built in the opening quarter of play. The Lions led by as many as 12 points in the first quarter, but Queen's managed to cut the deficit down to a manageable five by the halftime buzzer.

After the teams went on to exchange the lead multiple times in the third, the Gael offence took flight in the final quarter. The women streaked to eight-straight points early in the fourth, and then used a 10-2 run in the middle stage of the period to push their advantage into double-digits. Pearson scored seven of her 15 points in the fourth.

Both teams shot fairly efficiently in their respective offences; the Gaels were 43.9% from the floor, while the Lions shot 45.9%. Queen's hit the 80-point mark for the third time in its past four games, while it was the second time York finished with 75 or more points during the regular season.

The Gaels (9-1) maintain their place at the top of the OUA East division, while the Lions drop to 2-8 on the year.
