Neville leads the Gaels in three straight sets over Lakehead

THUNDER BAY, Ont. (January 15, 2015) – The Gaels (7-5) opened their 2016 schedule Friday night with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-23) road win against the Lakehead Thunderwolves (4-8).

GAME FLOW
The visitors had a strong opening to their night as they topped Lakehead's 0.143 attacking percentage with a 0.238 percentage of their own with only two errors. The Gaels set the pace for the match with the 25-17 first set win.

The Thunderwolves tried to slow their opponents in the second but the Gaels kept ahead, increasing their offensive efficiency and putting away a 25-20 win. Their momentum led into the final frame as the Gaels picked up their third set in a row despite the best efforts of the Thunderwolves who shrunk the final score to a two point deficit, 25-23.
 
Shannon Neville (Cambridge, Ont.) led the Gaels in their win with 13 kills off a 0.243 percentage. Franzi Wilhelm (Lichtenstein, Germany) contributed 28 assists in their win as well as four digs and 2 kills as the Queen's setter. Defensively, Caroline Livingston (Kelowna, B.C.) led the Gaels with seven digs.

On the other side of the action Leah Mousseau was a force to be reckoned with picking up a game high 14 kills along with seven digs. The Thunderwolves also had a leader on the defensive front despite their loss as Alyssa Genereux picked up a game-high 15 digs.

UP NEXT
The Gaels will continue their OUA season next weekend when they host the York Lions on January 22 and the Nipissing Lakers on January 23. The games are both scheduled for 6:00 pm in the ARC Main Gym.
