TORONTO (January 15, 2016) - The Queen's Gaels men's basketball team (6-2) returned to regular season play on Friday evening in the provincial capital, and fell 85-84 to the Toronto Varsity Blues (3-4) in a tightly-contested match at the Goldring Centre.
 
GAME FLOW
Sukhpreet Singh (Toronto) recorded a game-high 24 points, shooting 7-of-17 from the floor and 8-of-12 from the foul-line, while Andrew Mavety (Vancouver, Ont.) and Tanner Graham (Kingston, Ont.) added 11 and 10 respectively for the Gaels, who lost despite shooting a solid 44.3% from the field.
 
Devon Williams led the Blues with a team-best 23 points, which included four three-point baskets, and added six rebounds in the win. Toronto's starters outscored Queen's starting five by 16 points, and the hosts turned the ball over a sparse five times, compared to 15 by the Gaels.
 
After Queen's jumped out to a 14-point advantage by the end of the opening quarter, their offence quieted in the second frame, as the Gaels were only able to muster six points. The Blues, however, took full advantage, dropping 26 to head into halftime with a six-point advantage.
 
The visitors re-took the lead midway through the third quarter after going on a 12-0 streak, and went on to score a formidable 34 points in the stanza to take a five-point lead into the fourth. Queen's built the lead to as high as eight points in the fourth, but a 13-5 run by the hosts evened the game late in regulation. A couple of key baskets by the Blues in the final minutes of play ended up being the difference, as the Gaels had their four-game regular season road winning streak snapped.
 
At 6-2, Queen's remains first in the OUA East, while the Blues improve to 3-4 on the season.
