No.2 Gaels hammer Trent 54-0

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. (September 19, 2015) - The No.2 Queen's (2-0) women's rugby team had no trouble getting past the Trent Excalibur (0-2) on Saturday in Peterborough taking a dominant 54-0 shutout win.

GAME FLOW

Lauren Cranfield (Pickering, Ont.) wasted no time getting the Gaels out in front for their 11am match at Trent as she found the try zone in the first minute of the match. Erin Geddes (Lindsay, Ont.) got the conversion, her first of many on the day, to make it 7-0 Gaels. From there Queen's started to open up a wide margin, first it was Emma Chown (Barrie, Ont.) with her first try of the day which was converted by Geddes, then Miranda Seifert (Regina) added a try and Queen's was up 19-0 only nine minutes in.

From there the Gaels added another Chown try and a penalty kick and conversion from Geddes and sat comfortably with a 29-0 lead at half.

Hannah Greenwood (Kingston, Ont.), Katie Garland (Peterborough, Ont.), Leigha Stiles (Pembroke, Ont.) and Hannah Bradshaw (Napanee, Ont.) all scored trys in the second half en route to a 54-0 final.

FINAL SAY?

"Things went as we expected and we wanted to work in some players who hadn't had a lot of playing time yet and let them show that they deserve to be picked for games in the future as well. We actually finished with 10 first-year players on the field so lot's of new players were able to put on the jersey and get an opportunity to play." - Beth Barz, head coach.
