Almeida strikes again as Gaels ease to 4-0 win over Algonquin

KINGSTON, Ont. (August 26, 2015) - The Gaels found their first exhibition win this season taking down the visiting Algonquin Thunder 4-0 at Miklas McCarney Field on Wednesday night.

The game marked the Gaels final tune-up before opening their regular season this coming weekend where they will visit Ottawa and Carleton.

GAME FLOW
With a goal in each of her first two games at the Old Four tournament this past weekend, Brittany Almeida (Kingston, Ont.) picked up right where she left off as she showcased some fancy footwork and fired the first goal of the game past the Algonquin keeper Jenna King in the 21st minute.

Queen's controlled much of the pace earlier in the game and the closest attempt on net for Algonquin was a chip shot that sailed wide of the Gaels net of the foot of Vanessa McMillan.

In the second half the Gaels took control. First it was Laura Callender (Nepean, Ont.) who fired a rocket into the top corner in the 64th minute, then Tianna Lombardo (Calgary) chipped in a cross just four minutes later. The Gaels added one more to finish up with a 4-0 win. Madison Tyrell (White Rock, B.C.) started for Queen's and faced no shots while Michaila Frawley (Victoria) stepped into action for the second half stopping the lone shot on goal by Algonquin.

Final say?
"The main thing right now is building chemistry together, we have a lot of talent on this team so it's important to figure out how we can all fit together.  Coming in as a rookie can be challenging as there are a lot of big changes from the club level including especially physically. There is a lot of talent out there but I think I'm finding my place more on the team as the games go on." – Rookie mid-field Lidia Bradau
