HAMILTON (February 7, 2015) – The Gaels (9-6) fell 74-45 to the No. 9 McMaster Marauders (11-4) this Saturday afternoon.
Gemma Bullard (Guelph, Ont.) had a season best performance, leading the Gaels with 11 points while
Robyn Pearson (Toronto) led on the defensive front grabbing 12 rebounds.
Liz Boag (Kingson, Ont.) and
Andrea Priamo (Guelph, Ont.) both contributed seven points each to the Gaels score. On the McMaster end Danielle Boiago had a double-double performance with a game high 26 points and 10 rebounds. She was followed by Clare Kenney who grabbed 12 rebounds and scored 12 points in their win.
The first quarter was a tight match with the two teams matching each other with 12 points each but the Marauders doubling the Gaels in shooting percentage. The Marauders locked down their defensive play in the second quarter grabbing 25 rebounds over the 13 by the Gaels and pulling ahead into a 38-21 lead at halftime.
The second half saw the Marauders continue to power forward as they outscored the Gaels 17-11 in the third, stretching their lead to 55-32 going into the final frame. The Gaels struggled to get their defence in check but the Marauders kept driving the basket and were able to run out the clock on their 74-45 win.
The Gaels will be back in action on February 13 when they host the Carleton Ravens at 6:00 pm in the ARC Main Gym.
