KINGSTON, Ont. (November 7, 2015) - The Queen's Gaels men's rugby team will get a chance to defend their three-time OUA title streak after dispatching of their rivals the Western Mustangs 37-8 on Saturday night in Kingston.
GAME FLOWAfter a slow start the Gaels were able to get on the board in the 16th minute thanks to a penalty goal from
Alex Colborne (London, Ont.). The Mustangs were able to push the Gaels defence back deep towards their try line but the Gaels held strong, keeping Western at bay.
Queen's turned their strong defensive stand into points on the board as they pushed back against Western and Lucas Rumaball (Toronto) finished off a one metre run with a try, a successful Colborne coversion gave the Gaels a 10-0 lead. The Mustangs added a penalty goal of their own to close out the half trailing Queen's 10-3.
The Gaels took over in the second half
Matt Beukeboom (Bobcaygeon, Ont.) touched dow a try just two minutes in followed quickly by a score from Colborne. 10 minutes into the second half and Queen's was out ahead 24-3.
The Gaels cruised from there adding another 13 points while giving up just one try to the Mustangs for a 37-8 victory.
