OSHAWA (November 7, 2015) - Queens' winning streak was snapped in their first home and home matchup against UOIT on Friday night. The Men were looking to get back into the win column on Saturday.
Game FlowJacob Brennan (Halifax, NS) was given his second start of the season on Saturday, backstopping the Gaels in Oshawa. Looking to get off to a quick start, the Gaels were able to jump out to the lead half-way through the opening frame,
Darcy Greenaway (Oakville, Ont,) snapped home his third of the year to give the visiting team a 1-0 lead.
The Gaels were able to hold onto the slim lead heading into the second, but it was UOIT tieing things up early in the period with a goal by Loren Ulett. The Ridgebacks kept their foot on the peddle as they potted another early second period goal just one minute later, giving them a 2-1 lead.
Despite keeping pace in shots on goal, Queen's was unable to stop the offensive prowess of UOIT. Repeating the trend from Friday night, the Ridgebacks scored a third straight goal to take a 3-1 lead in the third period. Ulett scored his second of the game and sixth of the season to give the home team a two-goal cushion. The Gaels weren't giving up there, looking to make up their two-goal deficit.
Jordan Coccimiglio (Burlington, Ont.) netted his second of the season to put the visiting team within reach.
With the game on the line and the Gaels pressing for the equalizer,
Spencer Abraham (Campbelville, Ont.) put home the team's third of the game to tie things at 3-3, with just seven seconds left in the third. The game would of course, head to an extra frame, overtime.
It didn't take long for the extra frame to be decided as it was Greenaway scoring his second of the year to give the Gaels a big comeback win, taking the game 4-3 on Oshawa and getting back into the win column.
