NORTH BAY, Ont. (November 6, 2015) – The Gaels (1-3) took their first victory of their OUA season this Friday night against the Nipissing Lakers (0-3) who they defeated in three straight sets.
GAME FLOW The Gaels were quick from the get go, smacking down the first point of the match determined to get themselves a win as they topped the Lakers with a 0.419 percentage over their 0.135 percentage in the first set. Meeting the technical timeout up 16-12, the Gaels cruised to a 25-19 set win against Nipissing, easily getting up 1-0.
The second set mirrored with first with Queen's leading at the technical and taking the set 25-18. In the final frame, the Lakers picked up their defense and stayed close behind the Gaels trying to get themselves a set win. The Gaels hit a 5 point run late in the set, getting up 20-14 and even though the Lakers continued to try and catch them, Queen's wrapped up their night 25-21 taking the Lakers 3-0.
Shannon Neville (Cambridge, Ont.) and
Shannon Hopkins (North Vancouver) led the Gaels in their win, scoring eight kills a piece with Neville scooping up 12 digs and Hopkins 10. On the Lakers side of the action, Erika Lapierre smacked down seven kills and Jessica Klassen dominated the defensive end with 10 kills in the match.
