Gaels score a 3-2 comeback win over Western

LONDON, Ont. (November 15, 2015) – The Gaels (3-4) trumped the Western Mustangs (4-1) 3-2 after a close five set battle to hand the Mustangs their first loss of the season.

GAME FLOW
The Mustangs got it started early, hitting an eight point streak after dropping the first three to Queen's to give them enough momentum to double the Gaels in points at the technical timeout. The Gaels kept it close putting pressure on at the set point, but the Mustangs got away with a 27-25 score.

It was a close second as the teams traded point for point, the Gaels only trailing by one at the technical timeout. Again it was down to the wire as it took two failed attempts for Western to finally put away the set, this time ahead of the Gaels 29-27.

The Gaels turned up the heat in the third frame, getting ahead 5-0 right off the bat although the Mustangs caught them to lead once again at the technical timeout. Queen's fought their way back into the lead at 21-20 and wrapped up their 25-20 set win off two consecutive kills by Captain Shannon Neville (Cambridge, Ont.). The Gaels took off in the fourth, tying the match up at 2-2 after putting away a 25-14 set score.

The final frame started slowly as the two teams battled for the lead. Off an error by Western, the Gaels hit a six point run and with a final kill by Neville, completed their comeback win 3-2 with a final set score of 15-8.

Neville was a force once again for the Gaels in their win, putting down 19 kills and picking up 16 digs. She was followed up by Victoria Wensley (Coquitlam, B.C.) who chalked up 16 kills and nine digs in her own right. Aja Gyimah led Western's offensive campaign with 16 kills while the defensive was led by Katherine Tsiofas with 15 digs.
