Gaels defeat the visiting Guelph Gryphons 3-1

KINGSTON, Ont. (November 21, 2015) – The Gaels (4-4) came back from a 1-0 deficit to clinch a 3-1 win against the Guelph Gryphons (3-4) this Saturday afternoon.

GAME FLOW
Shannon Neville (Cambridge, Ont.) was a key player for the Gaels in their comeback win over the Gryphons as she recorded 16 kills while picking up 20 digs. Libero Becky Wilson (Pickering, Ont.) dominated the defensive front for Queen's racking up 30 digs in the match. On the Gryphons side of the action Kristen Almhjell led the defensive with 27 digs while Maddie Dedecker lead the offensive with 13 kills.  

The Gaels put the first points on the board but it was the Gryphons who caught the first big lead of the match.They went on a seven point run taking a 16-10 lead at the technical timeout. The Gaels began to find their game after the break and put pressure on the Gryphons as they shrunk their deficit to 23-21. Guelph held onto their lead to put away the last two points and take the opening set 25-21.

It was a slower start to the second set as both teams traded points through to the technical timeout with the Gaels holding a slim 16-15 advantage over the Gryphons. Off four straight points from the hard serves of Cayte Wilson, Guelph took a late 22-19 lead in the second. The Gaels didn't take their foot of the pedal as they turned the tables and regained their lead to tie the match at 1-1 taking the second set 25-23.
 

The Gryphons got ahead early in the third off back to back aces from Victoria Golebiowski keeping ahead to lead the Gaels 16-12 at the technical timeout. Queen's picked up their offense to tie it all up at 17 points before taking off for a six point run to win the set 25-20.

Leading the Gryphons 2-1 the Gaels continued their strong play into the fourth, meeting the technical timeout ahead 16-10. The Gryphons attempt to get to back into the game was unsuccessful as the Gaels completed their 3-1 comeback win with a 25-19 final set score.
