Gaels squeak past Voyageurs

SUDBURY, Ont. (November 13, 2015)- Sukhpreet Singh recorded a team-high 21 points, and the Queen's Gaels men's basketball team slipped past the Laurentian Voyaguers 69-68 on Friday evening at Ben Avery Gym.

GAME FLOW
Sukhpreet Singh (Toronto) sunk six field goals and was 75% (9-12) from the free-throw line in helping the Gaels to their second-striaght victory to open the regular season. Fellow Toronto native Ryall Stroud recorded 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting in just 18 minutes of game-time while Patrick Street picked up 14 points for Queen's, who shot 33.3% (21-63) overall on the night. David Aromolaran picked up a game-high 22 points in a losing cause for the Voyageurs.

After being held to just 13 points in the opening quarter of play, the men exploded for 26 in the second period. Down by 10 midway through the second, Queen's went on a 15-3 run, 10 of which came from Singh, to overtake the hosts and move into the lead. A three-point basket by Tanner Graham (Kingston, Ont.) gave the Gaels a slight lead going into halftime.

The men increased the lead to as much as 10 throughout the second half, but the hosts made a comeback bid late in the contest to cut the deficit to a single point. Aromolaran, however, was unable to convert on a final three-point attempt, and the Gaels maintained their unbeaten record to start conference play.

UP NEXT
The Gaels travel to North Bay, Ont. tomorrow evening to take on the Nipissing Lakers. Queen's returns to Kingston next weekend to host McMaster and Brock respectively.
