OTTAWA (October 31, 2015) - With just one game on the weekend the Men's Hockey Team looked to come out on top in their quick weekend road trip to Ottawa to take on the Carleton Ravens.
Riding a three-game win streak, Queen's looked to take their momentum into their game against Carleton after a two-game sweep of Lakehead last weekend on the road.
Game FlowThe first period was a stalemate all the way through. Both teams out up 11 shots on the board with nothing to show for it. Queen's went 0/1 on the powerplay, while Carleton was 0/2 with the extra man in the opening frame.
With the Ravens' offense continuing to press, it was the Gaels who ended up breaking the scoreless game open. 5:33 into the second
Darcy Greenaway (Oakville, Ont.) scored his second goal of the season while
Patrick Downe (New Maryland, NB) and
Spencer Abraham (Cambelville, Ont.) each chipped in with their third assists of the season. The goalies for both sides would shut the door the rest of the period, as the Gaels took a 1-0 lead into the third.
A late second period penalty proved to cost more than just two minutes for the Ravens. With the extra man,
Patrick Downe fired home his first goal of the year just 34 seconds into the final frame. Being outshot 26-20,
Kevin Bailie (Belleville, Ont.) and the Queen's defense did the work the rest of the way. It wasn't until Carleton opted for the extra attacker in the final moments of the game that another goal was scored. Fortunately for the visitors it was an empty-net marker by
Shawn Boudreau (Kentville, Ont.) that gave them a 3-0 lead and win.
