Women's rugby falls in OUA semi to Guelph, will host OUA bronze game next Saturday

GUELPH, Ont. (October 24, 2015) - The No. 4 Gaels lost in their OUA semifinal game to the No.1 Guelph Gryphons 38-3 and will now host the OUA bronze medal game next Saturday.

GAME FLOW

The Gaels were up against the No.1 team in the nation on the road as they visited Guelph for the second time in three weeks. The Gryphons scored tries early and didn't take long to get out in front 19-0 in the first half. The Gaels, the only team to have scored a try against Guelph during the regular season, managed to get on the baord thanks to a penalty goal to close the first half by Erin Geddes (Lindsay, Ont.). The Gryphons led at halftime by a score of 24-3.

The second half saw the Gryphons add 14 more points and finish off the Gaels 38-3. With the win, the Gryphons will now host the OUA Championship next weekend in Guelph while the Gaels will host the OUA bronze medal match at Nixon Field in Kingston. Queen's will also advance on to the CIS Championship no matter their finish as tournament hosts while the OUA Champion will join them in Kingston.

Queen's will host the loser of the other OUA semifinal between Western and McMaster which takes place Saturday evening at 7pm. The Gaels will then open up the CIS women's rugby championship on November 5th.
