OTTAWA, Ont. (October 23, 2015)- The Queen's Gaels women's volleyball team dropped their season opener on the road Friday evening, falling to the Ottawa Gee-Gees 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-14).

Shannon Hopkins recorded a game-high 10 kills and 12 points in a losing cause for the Gaels (0-1). The North Vancouver, B.C. native committed just five errors and garnered a kill efficiency of .167 for Queen's, while
Shannon Neville (Cambridge, Ont.) picked up seven kills for Queen's, who totalled 22 kills in their season debut. The Gaels recorded 34 digs, compared to 38 from Ottawa.
Caroline Lemay and Kara Hayes picked up 12 and 11 points respectively to lead the Gee-Gees to their first regular season victory. The hosts recorded a .202 kill efficiency, compared to -.011 for the visitors, and tallied seven total blocks in helping them to the win. Alix Duvirage also garnered seven points, including two solo blocks and two service aces for Ottawa.
Up nextThe women will look to pick up their first conference victory next weekend, when they open their home schedule against Ryerson and Toronto on Friday and Saturday respectively. Both games will begin at 6:00 p.m.
