Women's Basketball Invitational Tournament - Schedule, Recaps and Results

KINGSTON, Ont. - The Queen's Gaels welcome the UQAM Citadins, the Memorial Sea-Hawks and the Carleton Ravens to the ARC Main Gym this weekend for their annual invitational tournament. The action starts off on Friday and runs straight through the weekend wrapping up on Sunday afternoon.

Day 3
UQAM vs Memorial (Boxscore)
The UQAM Citadins held off a strong, late push from the Memorial Sea-Hawks to conclude their weekend at the Tindall Invitational Tournament with a 60-58 victory over their AUS conference counterparts.

Bianca Marois led the Citadins with 13 points, and Queteline Celestin added 12 points and a game-high eight rebounds to help push UQAM to its second victory of the weekend. The RSEQ conference representatives shot 37.7% (23-61) from the field, compared to a 39.7% (23-58) efficiency from the Sea-Hawks, who finished the tournament 0-3. Sydney Ezekiel led all scorers with 24 points, shooting an impressive 10-of-16 from the field, while Sydney Stewart added 12 points in a losing cause for Memorial.

After taking a slim, 3-point advantage into halftime, the Sea-Hawks managed just four points in the third quarter, allowing the Citadins to take a healthy, double-digit lead at the end of the period. Six straight points from Memorial to open the final quarter vaulted them right back into the contest, and they stayed within striking distance throughout the fourth, slicing the UQAM lead down to a single point with 22 seconds to play. However, they would miss their final jumpshot of the contest, allowing the Citadins to escape with the victory.

Carleton vs Queen's (Boxscore)
The Queen's Gaels women's basketball team made it a clean sweep at the Tindall Invitational Tournament on Sunday afternoon at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC), topping the Carleton Ravens 81-63 to conclude their weekend with a perfect 3-0 record.

For the third-straight day, Emily Hazlett (Fredericton, N.B.) led the Gaels with 17 points, going 4-of-8 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line, while recording a game-high six steals. Jenny Wright (Kingston) added 16 points in the win for Queen's, who as a team shot 37.7% (29-77) and out-rebounded the Ravens 47-41.

The hosts had an explosive first half offensively, tallying 52 points through the opening two quarters to take a healthy lead into the halftime break. The Ravens responded by limiting the Gaels to single-digits in the third stanza, but still faced a 12-point deficit heading into the fourth. The Queen's offense re-ignited in the final period, helping pace the Gaels to a third victory in as many days. Carleton shot 35.7% overall, and were led by a 20-point performance by Nicole Gilmore.

The Gaels hit the road for their final three pre-season matches at Brock, McMaster, and Guelph before opening up their regular season at the ARC on Saturday, November 7 against the York Lions.

Day 2
Carleton vs UQAM (Boxscore)
The UQAM Citadins recovered from a tournament-opening loss to the host Queen's Gaels by defeating the Carleton Ravens 57-51 to open the second day of Tindall Invitational Tournament action at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC).

Jessica Lubin led all players with 18 points and 10 rebounds to record her second double-double of the weekend, while teammate Janice Quintos added 13 points and four boards in the victory. The Citadins shot 34.8% (24-69) throughout the contest, compared to a 27.8% (15-54) efficiency from the Ravens, who fall to 1-1 on the weekend after opening their schedule with a win over Memorial on Friday.

After taking a 1-point lead after the first 10 minutes of play, UQAM held Carleton to a modest six points in the second stanza to help spread that advantage up to double-digits heading into halftime. The Ravens came out firing in the third quarter, however, going on an 11-0 run to even the contest at 31-31. UQAM would quickly regroup and after taking a short lead into the final quarter, they built the advantage back up to double-digits midway through the fourth to put the game on ice.

Alexandra Trivieri and Nicole Gilmore recorded 12 and 11 points respectively in the loss for Carleton, who will wrap up the weekend on Sunday afternoon against Queen's, with tip-off set for 2:00 p.m. UQAM concludes their weekend at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday morning against Memorial.

Memorial vs Queen's (Boxscore)
The Queen's Gaels women's basketball team improved to 2-0 at the Tindall Invitational Tournament on Saturday evening, handily defeating the Memorial Sea-Hawks 94-62 at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC).

Emily Hazlett (Fredericton, N.B.) notched a game-high 19 points, shooting 8-of-15 from the field while adding seven assists and six rebounds. Abby Dixon (North Vancouver, B.C.) added 16 points and eight rebounds, and Andrea Priamo (Guelph, Ont.) picked up a game-high 12 rebounds for the Gaels, who garnered a 44.6% (37-83) shooting efficiency and dominated the glass, bringing down 55 boards compared to 33 from the Sea-Hawks.

Lindsay Taylor matched Hazlett's output, also tallying 19 points in a losing cause for Memorial, and Sydney Ezekiel added 16 points and a team-high six rebounds. After going down by 20 points through the first quarter of play, the Sea-Hawks were able to shave the deficit down to 10 at the halfitme buzzer. The Gaels, however, reignited their offense in the second-half, scoring an impressive 49 points and shooting just under 50% in the final two quarters of play.

Memorial concludes their weekend on Sunday morning against UQAM at 10:00 a.m. The host Queen's will look to come away from the Invitational with three victories on Sunday afternoon when they tip off against the Carleton Ravens at 2:00 p.m.

Day 1
Memorial vs Carleton (Boxscore)
Heather Lindsay recorded game-highs of 27 points and 14 rebounds, and the Carleton Ravens used an explosive third quarter to slip past the Memorial Sea-Hawks 76-73 to open the Queen's women's basketball team's Tindall Invitational Tournament on Friday afternoon at the Athletics and Recreation Complex (ARC).

Lindsay scored 11 of her 27 points in the third period, and was 8-of-11 from the field and 11-of-13 from the free throw line for the Ravens, who overcame a 15-point halftime deficit by outscoring Memorial 28-10 in the opening 10 minutes of the second half. Nicole Gilmore added 17 points on 8-of-17 shooting and added 11 rebounds to record the second double-double of the contest for Carleton. The Ravens shot 48.1% from the field overall and outrebounded their Atlantic University Sport (AUS) opponent 44-33.

Chante Clarke and Sidney Stewart each tallied 23 points while Sydney Ezekiel added 14 in a losing cause for the Seahawks. Memorial shot 36.9% as a team on Friday, and were 3-of-16 from beyond the arc, compared to a 6-of-16 three-point efficiency for the Ravens.

UQAM vs Queen's (Boxscore)
Emily Hazlett recorded a game-high 17 points, and the Queen's Gaels women's basketball team overcame a first-half deficit to notch a 69-63 victory over the UQAM Citadins on Friday night at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC).

The Fredericton, N.B. native shot 4-of-8 from the floor, picked up seven assists, and was an impressive 9-of-9 from the free-throw line in helping the Gaels open the Tindall Invitational Tournament with a victory. A total of five Gaels finished with double-digits in scoring, with Andrea Priamo (Guelph, Ont.) and Robyn Pearson (Toronto) added 12 each for Queen's. Pearson also picked up a team-high eight rebounds for the Gaels, who shot 37.3% overall from the field.

After trailing by nine points heading into the break, the Gaels gradually cut the lead throughout the third quarter, and headed into the final period down by just a single point. The teams then traded the lead back and forth throughout the fourth before seven-straight points from the hosts gave them a 64-61 advantage. After UQAM cut the lead by one, a timely jumper from Pearson restored the three-point spread.

The Citadins missed both their three-point attempts down the stretch, and the Gaels were able to clinch their first victory of the weekend. UQAM shot 38.3% and was narrowly outrebounded 39-38 by Queen's. Jessica Lubin totalled 14 points and a game-best 12 rebounds in a losing cause for the Citadins, who will face the Carleton Ravens on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
