Gaels shut down cross-town rival RMC 3-0 for sixth straight win

KINGSTON, Ont. (January 16, 2015) The Gaels (9-4) made the trek down the causeway to visit the RMC Paladins (0-13) on Friday night where Queen's stole a 3-0 victory, their sixth straight in OUA men's volleyball action. Set scores finished 25-12, 25-16 and 25-17 in favour of Queen's.

Four Gaels finished with double-digit points in the win led by Scott Brunet (Calgary) with 17.5 after playing well on all fronts sporting 10 kills, six blocks, six assists, four digs and a pair of aces. Mike Tomlinson (Stratford, Ont.), Ben Harper (Ottawa) and Aaron Nusbaum (Aurora, Ont.) finished with 14, 11 and 10 points respectivley to aid in the Gaels attack.

Queen's took the first set quite handidly with a strong 25-12 showing over RMC, who remains winless on the season. Ivo Dramov (Plovdiv, Bulgaria) showed why he leads the CIS in digs per set with another strong showing averaging seven digs per set in the match, feeding the Gaels offensive attack.

The second set saw an improved effort from the Paladins but not nearly up to par with the Gaels who took things 25-16. Brunet was a force in the middle for Queen's with five solo blocks in the match which is his second highest mark on the season.

The Gaels proved too much in the final set taking the match with a 25-17 third set win. Gaels rookie setter Joraver Sangha (Brampton, Ont.) was the Gaels primary setter in the match and coordinated the Gaels attack in the tune of 16 assists.

With their winning streak stretched to six the Gaels have dropped only three sets during that time holding an 18-3 advantage. They have now won three straight games by 3-0 margins as well.

Up next for the Gaels they will welcome the No.2 McMaster Marauders who lead the OUA standings on Sunday at 3pm at the ARC Main Gym.
