Gaels This Week - Football against rival Western is game of the week

The Queen's Gaels are in action on numerous fronts this weekend. Here's a rundown of when and where to catch your Gaels in action at home or how to follow them on the road!

Game of the Week - Queen's Football hosts Western
The Gaels will host the No.3 Western Mustangs this Saturday at Richardson Stadium, with kickoff set for 1pm. Queen's, coming off a loss from last weekend's game, will be hoping to improve their record this weekend against Western. The Gaels will look to flip last year's results, in which Western beat Queen's in the regular season and the Yates Cup.

Last weekend the Gaels fought hard against the Gee-Gees, with Billy McPhee (Burlington, Ont.) leading Queen's on offence, finishing the game with over 300 yards and two touchdowns through the air.  On the receiving end, the combined efforts from Jonah Pataki (Wallaceburg, Ont.) and Curtis Carmichael (Scarborough, Ont.) helped the Gaels stay competitive in the game. Pataki received one of McPhee's touchdown throws and added another score on the ground where he totaled 157 yards. Carmichael was the go-to receiver on Saturday, with a game-high 134 yards on eight receptions, including a touchdown. On defence, Luke McQuilkin (Burlington, Ont.) made 8.5 total tackles, while Frederic Kinkead (Quebec City) had a 38 yard interception return and four solo tackles.

Western will be entering the game this Saturday coming off a big win against York last weekend, blanking the Lions 61-0.

Women's Soccer
This weekend, the No.10 Gaels will play an away game on Saturday against the Trent Excalibur, before returning to Miklas-McCarney Field on Sunday at 1pm, taking on a new rival in the UOIT Ridgebacks. As UOIT is a new addition to the OUA this year, the Gaels will do their best to prepare against an unfamiliar opponent. Coming off two big wins last weekend, Queen's hopes to extend their three game winning streak to start the season. Jackie Tessier (Winnipeg) put her fourth goal of the season in the back of the net last weekend, inching within two goals of tying the Gaels all-time scoring record.

Men's Soccer
The Gaels will travel Saturday to play the Trent Excalibur, and then play host to the UOIT Ridgebacks on Sunday at 3:15pm on Miklas-McCarney Field. A new addition to the OUA, UOIT is an unfamiliar team, for which the Gaels will do their best to prepare. The Gaels won both games this past weekend, 2-1 against Laurentian and 2-0 against Nipissing, and are hoping to continue that trend against against a pair of winless opponents in Trent (0-1-2) and UOIT (0-2-1).

Women's Rugby
This Sunday the No.2 Gaels will be on the road playing an away game against the No.9 McMaster Marauders. Last weekend, the defending OUA Champions came out strong and defeated York 61-12 at Nixon field for the Women's Rugby home opener, while McMaster had their season opener against Trent postponed.

Men's Rugby
The men's rugby team plays in their home opener on Nixon Field at 1pm on Saturday agianst RMC. The Gaels began their season by shutting out Laurier 53-0 last weekend. RMC lost a close match to Brock 24-20 on Sunday. The back-to-back OUA Champions did not allow their opponents to score any points in their first three games last season, which included a 30-0 victory over RMC.

Men's Hockey
This weekend the Gaels will be playing an exhibition game against RMC on Saturday at 7pm at the Lou Jeffries Gananoque Recreation Centre.

Women's Hockey
In preparation for the upcoming season, the Gaels will be playing an exhibition double header against the Ottawa Gee-Gees, with the first game at 7pm on Friday and the second on Sunday at 4pm.
