Gaels lose close five-set match to Ryerson

BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. (February 8, 2014) - Ryerson outscored the Gaels by a single point in Saturday afternoon's match at the ARC, defeating the Gaels in five sets, 23-25, 25-22, 25-20, 18-25, 15-13.

Queen's took the opening set, coming back from a seven-point deficit at the technical timeout. After the Rams took a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth set, Queen's forced a tie-breaker. The Gaels hitting let them down in the final set, with their worst kill percentage of the match coming in the fifth and deciding set.

Brett Hagarty (Aurora, Ont.) was her usual self defensively, picking up a game-high 20 digs for Queen's, while also contributing 13 kills. Kelsey Bishop (North Vancouver) was the best Gael offensively, knocking down 15 kills and putting up 3.5 blocks. 

Ryerson's Emily Nicholishen had the most kills in the game with 17. Kristina Vlcek was the most efficient Ram, hitting 13 kills with a kill percentage of .500. Defensively, Julie Longman picked up 18 digs in the win.

The Gaels close out their 2013-2014 season on Sunday, hosting Toronto at the ARC at 1pm.
