Gaels This Week - Carr-Harris Cup highlights busy home schedule

| By:
The Queen's Gaels are in action on numerous fronts this week. Here's a rundown of when and where to catch your Gaels in action including the game of the week where the men's hockey team will take on RMC in the 28th Carr-Harris Cup Thursday at 7:30pm at the K-Rock Centre.

Men's Hockey: Queen's has a pair of games this weekend, including the 28th Carr-Harris Challenge Cup (FULL PREVIEW) on Thursday at 7:30pm at the K-Rock Centre and another 7:30pm matchup on Saturday, hosting No. 5 UQTR at the Memorial Centre.

Basketball: The men host No. 2 Ottawa at 8pm on Friday night. As a team, Queen's is eighth in the CIS in Free Throw makes, so getting to the line could help the Gaels this weekend. Fresh off a pair of home wins over Algoma and Laurentian, the Gaels have their work cut out for them as they look to make it three in a row. Also hosting Ottawa in a 6pm matchup on Friday, the women are a different story. The top three teams in the OUA East will be in Kingston this weekend, with Queen's (12-6) and Ottawa (12-6) chasing Carleton (13-5) in the standings. When Queen's visited the nation's capital two weeks ago, the Gaels lost by two points to Carleton before topping Ottawa in overtime. The men's and women's basketball teams host Carleton on Saturday night at 6pm and 8pm to close out their weekend. On the women's side, Carleton sits a game ahead of Queen's for first in the OUA East. With a pair of wins this weekend, the Gaels could catapult themselves into first place in the OUA East heading into the final weekend of regular season play.Carleton's men's squad is No. 1 in the country, undefeated with just four games left in their schedule. Both games will be the last home games for the Gaels of the regular season.

Women's Hockey: The No. 5 Gaels close out the regular season this weekend on the road, playing at Ryerson on Saturday at 2:30pm before playing at No. 9 Toronto on Sunday at 2pm. Fourth in the OUA standings, just one point back of Toronto, Queen's is poised to make the playoffs again this year in search of back-to-back OUA Championships. Captain Morgan McHaffie (Guelph, Ont.) recorded a goal and an assist last weekend, moving within four points of Elizabeth Chiasson's 155 career points total, a Queen's and OUA record. McHaffie has 29 points so far this season, ninth in the CIS.

Men's Volleyball: The men's volleyball team is on the cusp of making the playoffs with just two regular season games remaining, a pair of 3pm home games against Ryerson on Saturday and Toronto on Sunday. Queen's is tied in the sixth and final playoff spot with Windsor, with whom the Gaels own the tie-break, having beaten Windsor in both meetings this season. With a sweep this weekend, the Gaels control their own destiny and will be playoff-bound.

Women's Volleyball: The Gaels host Ryerson and Toronto this Saturday and Sunday at 1pm at the ARC to close out the regular season. Any hopes Queen's had of making the playoffs were dashed last weekend in a five-set loss to RMC. The Gaels can still play a role in determining the OUA playoff picture, however, as the top four teams in the East, including Ryerson and Toronto, are all within four points of each other.

Synchronized Swimming: The synchro team is off to Hamilton for their national competition this weekend. McMaster is hosting the event, which begins on Saturday with action continuing until Sunday.

Women's Fencing: RMC is hosting the OUA Championship this year in women's fencing, so the Gaels can stay in Kingston as they compete for the OUA banner. The women will look to best the men's silver finish from last weekend, as competition takes place on Saturday and Sunday.

Squash: The men's and women's squash clubs are headed to the OUA Championships this weekend, hosted by Western. Action on both sides spans Friday to Sunday.

Swimming: Both men's and women's swim teams are in the water this weekend at the OUA Championships. Brock hosts the event, which starts on Friday and concludes on Saturday.
