Halladay Buries Overtime Winner As No.5 Gaels Top No.8 Laurier 5-4

WATERLOO, Ont. (November 22, 2014) - Addi Halladay (North Augusta, Ont.) buried the game-winning goal in the overtime period as the No.5 Gaels defeated the No.8 Laurier Golden Hawks 5-4 Saturday night on the road in Waterloo.

Laurier opened the scoring halfway through the first frame on a powerplay goal from Laura Brooker. The Gaels responded with a powerplay marker of their own as captain Shawna Griffin (Redwood Meadows, Alta.) buried her second of the season. The Golden Hawks regained the lead shortly after on a goal from Jessica Prevette. Queen's answered with a tally from Alisha Sealey (Elora, Ont.), knotting the score at two heading into intermission.

Laurier recorded the lone goal of the middle period as Jessie Hurrell deposited the Golden Hawks second powerplay tally of the night.

The Gaels quickly evened the game, scoring in the opening minute of the final frame on Griffin's second of the night. Queen's then grabbed their first lead of the game after Emily Gervais (Kamloops, B.C.) registered her first of the season. Laurier continued to capitalize on the man advantage as Robyn Degagne buried the Golden Hawks' third powerplay goal on the night to even the score. Neither side could add the go-ahead tally in regulation as the game headed into overtime.

Queen's sealed the victory in the final minute of the overtime period as Halladay deposited the Gaels second powerplay goal of the night.

Final shots for the game totalled 41-27 in favour of Queen's. Goaltender Caitlyn Lahonen (Sharon, Ont.) started in net for the Gaels, earning the 23-save victory, while Laurier's Nicholle Kovach suffered the 34-save loss.

The No. 5 Gaels (7-1-2) return to action Sunday afternoon on the road as they are set to take on the Waterloo Warriors (4-5-3).
