GUELPH, Ont. (November 21, 2014) -
Jenny Wright (Kingston, Ont.) dominated the court and led the No.10 Gaels (2-2) in their victory against the Guelph Gryphons (3-2) Friday night.
Wright put up 15 points for the Gaels in their win followed by
Liz Boag (Kingston, Ont.) with 11 points and
Emily Hazlett (Fredericton, N.B.) and
Abby Dixon (North Vancouver) both with 10 points. The Gryphons were led by Bridget Atkinson who scored 15 points and Katherine MacTavish who scored 14 points and grabbed 18 rebounds.
The Gaels dominated the first quarter finishing with 16 points to the Gryphons nine and grabbing the early lead which they would hold onto until the final buzzer. Their lead continued into the second quarter as they outscored the Gryphons 17-12 and scored 28 points off turnovers in the game putting them ahead 33-21 at halftime.
The Gaels didn't slow their momentum in the second half scoring 17 points to the Gryphons 11 in the third. In the final frame, the Gryphons pulled out all the stops to try and reel in the Gaels lead outscoring them 23-15 but were could not come back from their deficit leaving the final score at 65-55 for Queen's.
The Gaels will be on the road to St. Catherines on November 22 to take on the Brock Badgers at 6:00 pm.
