GUELPH, Ont. (November 21, 2014) - The Gaels (0-4) lost to the Guelph Gryphons (2-3) this Friday night in their fourth game of regular OUA season play.
It was close from the tip off, with the Gaels grabbing the early lead but the Gryphons pulling ahead to briefly take the lead only to lose it going into the second quarter with the Gaels leading 20-15. It was the Gaels game for the rest of the first half as they outscored the Gryphons 22-10 and pulled away to put the score at 42-25 at halftime.
The Gryphons hit their rhythm in the second half and slowed the Gaels momentum putting them on their heels as they sunk 17 points compared to the seven scored by Queen's. Going into the final frame the Gryphons had closed the gap to a seven point lead for the Gaels and continued to close it hitting a 13-0 run to pull ahead. The Gaels fought to regain their lead but the Gryphons shut down their advances to meet the final buzzer with a 63-56 win.
The Gryphons were led by Daniel Dooley who scored 13 points and Jack Beatty who scored 12. Despite their loss the Gaels saw strong performances by
Greg Faulkner (Kingston, Ont.) who led all scorers with 18 points and grabbed 16 rebounds while as well as
Mike Shoveller (Arnprior, Ont.) contributed 14 points of his own to the Gaels score.
The Gaels will be back in action November 22 in St. Catherines when they play the Brock Badgers. Tip off is scheduled for 8:00 pm.
