De Boer extends scoring streak, Gaels top Nipissing 3-1

NORTH BAY, Ont. (October 5, 2014) - Jessie de Boer (North Vancouver, B.C.) extended her scoring streak as the women's soccer team earned their second win of the weekend, defeating the Nipissing Lakers 3-1 Sunday afternoon on the road.

It did not take long for the Gaels to find the back of the net, as Breanna Burton (Ottawa) buried her first of the season three minutes into the match. De Boer added the eventual game-winner soon after for Queen's. With today's tally, de Boer has scored seven goals in the last five games. Nipissing cut into the Gaels lead in the 33rd minute on a goal from Rachel Haine. As the first half reached its final minutes, Queen's regained the two goal lead as Rachel Radu beat Nipissing keeper Kelly Dunk.

The Gaels offence dominated play in the second half, registering fourteen shots on goal, but could not add to their lead. Keeper Madison Tyrell (White Rock, B.C.) started in net for Queen's and earned the victory, collecting eight saves in the outing.

The Gaels (7-2-3) return to action next Saturday when they begin their final four-game homestand of the season against the Ryerson Rams (3-7-0). The match begins at 1pm on Miklas-McCarney Field.
