KINGSTON, Ont. (October 12, 2014) - The women's soccer team could not find the back of the net in the second half as the Gaels were defeated 2-1 by Toronto on Sunday afternoon on Miklas-McCarney Field.
The Varsity Blues opened the scoring nine minutes into the match on a goal from Nicki Parkes amidst appeals from some Queen's players that the ball had hit the football upright and gone out of play. The Gaels knotted the score in the 30th minute as Jessie de Boer (North Vancouver, B.C.) controlled a cross from Brittany Almeida (Kingston, Ont.), and Tara Bartram (Vancouver) buried her fourth of the season.
Parkes of the Varsity Blues tallied her second goal of the match in the 56th minute to put Toronto ahead for good.
Madison Tyrell (White Rock, B.C.) of the Gaels and Sara Petrucci of the Varsity Blues collected seven saves apiece in the match. Final shots were 9-8 in favour of Toronto.
The Gaels (8-3-3) are scheduled to battle the No.2 Ottawa Gee Gees (12-1-0) on Wednesday evening at 5pm on Miklas-McCarney Field.
