HAMILTON, Ont. (October 11, 2014) - The Gaels took a bronze medal from the Mizuno-McMaster preseason tournament, as the topped York in four sets in the third place game on Saturday.
York came out strong to start the match, stealing the first set 25-22. Queen's responded by beating the Lions in three consecutive sets to close out the match. The second set ended 25-18 in favour of the Gaels, and Queen's dominated the third set to win 25-14. With a chance to secure the victory, the Gaels won the fourth and final set 25-15.Â
After the game,
Katie Hagarty (Aurora, Ont.) was named as a tournament all-star for Queen's, while York's Abby Ganzhorn also earned a place on the all-star team. Denise Wooding and Bojana Radan of Toronto joined Maicee Sorensen and Joanna Jedrzejewska of McMaster to round out the all-star team, while Toronto's Charlotte Sider picked up tournament MVP honours.
McMaster defeated Toronto in straight sets in the final.
The Gaels continue their preseason play on Homecoming Weekend, with a trio of matches against Sherbrooke.
