FREDERICTON, N.B. (October 10, 2014) - In a hard fought four sets, the Gaels defeated the University of New Brunswick on the road. UNB played admirably to make it a close battle, but in the fourth set, Mike Tomlinson (Stratford, Ont) secured the Queen's victory on a pass from Philippe Goyer (Ottawa).
The first set started tight with Queen's slowly pulling away from 13-11 to 18-11, and holding the lead for the rest of the set to take it 25-18. The Gaels started and maintained an early lead throughout the second set to win it 25-20. In the third, Queen's and UNB traded points, keeping the set extremely tight before UNB gained the edge and held the lead to finish the third set up 25-21. In the fourth set, the Gaels took an early lead and ran away with it to finish the fourth set 25-13 to win the match.
Ivo Dramov (Plovdiv, Bulgaria) had an impressive 23 digs for some great defensive play, while Tomlinson, Goyer, and Aaron Nusbaum (Aurora, Ont.) had 14, 12, and 10 kills, respectively.
The Gaels play again on Saturday at 2:30pm in another game against the Varsity Reds.
