The Queen's Gaels are in action on numerous fronts this week. Here's a rundown of when and where to catch your Gaels in action including the games of the week where the women's and men's volleyball teams will take on McMaster at 1/3pm Saturday.
Games of the Week
Volleyball: The women and men's volleyball teams host McMaster on Saturday at 1pm and 3pm in the games of the week. On the men's side, the Gaels are up against the country's No. 2 team in the Marauders. The men are trying to break a three-game losing streak when they're in action this weekend. After playing the powerhouse McMaster on Saturday, the Gaels head across town to play the winless RMC Paladins at 4pm on Sunday. In women's action, the Gaels are fresh off an upset win over York, who was ranked No. 7 last weekend, and ready for another tough team in McMaster. Queen's is looking to extend a three-game winning streak, which matches their longest of the season. The women's squad also has a road game on Sunday against RMC, who sits just behind the Gaels in sixth in the OUA East standings. The women play at RMC on Sunday at 2pm, with the men getting underway afterward at 4pm.
Women's Basketball: The Gaels are back at the ARC after consecutive weekends on the road, hosting Algoma on Friday and Laurentian on Saturday, with both games starting at 6pm. Queen's is coming off an impressive weekend at the nation's capital, falling just short against Carleton and then beating Ottawa, who was No. 10 last weekend, in an overtime thriller. The Gaels (10-6), third in the OUA East, will look to snap a two-game home losing streak against the division's bottom-dwellers, Algoma (0-16) and Laurentian (4-12). The Gaels
Robyn Pearson (Toronto) continues to be a force on the boards, sitting third in the country with 165 rebounds on the season.
Men's Basketball: The men's basketball team is looking to avenge a pair of road-losses they suffered in mid-January to Algoma and Laurentian, as they host the same two teams on Friday and Saturday night at 8pm. After a rough trip to Ottawa last weekend to play the nation's top two teams, Queen's is looking to snap a four-game losing streak, their longest of the season. The Gaels (7-9) have been more successful at home this year, winning four of their seven home games thus far. Laurentian boasts the country's third-best scorer this season, with Alex Ratte averaging over 25 points per game.
Greg Faulkner (Kingston, Ont.) leads Queen's with 16 points per game.
Men's Hockey: Queen's heads on the road to play Concordia Friday night at 8pm before returning to the Memorial Centre for a 7:30pm matchup against Nipissing on Saturday. The Gaels have beaten both of this weekend's opponents already this year, as they were 6-4 winners at Nipissing in October and they shutout Concordia just two weeks ago. The Gaels are led by their defense and goaltending, as
Kevin Bailie (Belleville, Ont.) is fifth in the country with a .934 save percentage, while his 2.04 goals against average is good for sixth in the CIS.
Chris Van Laren (Kingston, Ont.) is eighth among OUA defencemen with 15 points this season.
Women's Hockey: The No. 5 Gaels begin their two-week, season-ending road trip this weekend, playing at Brock on Friday at 7:15pm and at No. 3 Guelph on Saturday at 2pm. Guelph's Christine Grant is tied for fourth in CIS scoring with 29 points, while her teammate Jessica Pinkerton has 28 points and sits sixth. The Gaels captain
Morgan McHaffie (Guelph, Ont.) is just behind the Gryphons top scorers with 27 points, seventh in the country. With three points last weekend, McHaffie needs six points in the Gaels final four regular season games to tie Elizabeth Chiasson's Queen's and OUA career points record of 155.
