Gaels win a tight match at Western 3-1

BOX SCORE LONDON, Ont. (January 18, 2014) - With a point-differential of just two on the night, the Queen's women's volleyball team squeezed out a 3-1 win on the road against Western Saturday evening, 25-23, 21-25, 26-24, and 25-23.

Kelsey Bishop (North Vancouver) was the Gaels go-to player offensively, slamming down a game-high 18 kills. Brett Hagarty (Aurora, Ont.) also chipped in, with 14 kills and 10 digs off the bench. Niki Slikboer (Seagrave, Ont.) was flawless on the attack, hitting 10 kills with zero attacking errors. For the second game in a row, captain Katie Hagarty (Aurora, Ont.) picked a game-high in digs with 12 against the Mustangs.

The Gaels serving was also a strong-point on Saturday, as the team committed just five serving errors while picking up six aces.

Candice Scott and Steph Kreuter led Western's two-pronged attack, with 16 and 15 kills, respectively.

The Gaels are back on the road next weekend, playing Nipissing on Saturday and York on Sunday, with both games set for 2pm.
