No. 7 Gaels score early to beat Trent 2-0

| By:
PETERBOROUGH, Ont. (September 8, 2013) - Andrew Martin (Kingston, Ont.) opened the scoring for the No. 7 Gaels six minutes into their game against the Trent Excalibur Sunday afternoon at Justin Chiu Stadium, where the Gaels went on to win 2-0.

Tommy Hong (Oakville, Ont.) beat his man down the wing and played the ball into the box, where Martin finished the play from six yards out.

Trent found their footing late in the first half and continued to build on their momentum early the second half, forcing the Gaels keeper Dylan Maxwell (Vancouver) into a few pivotal saves. The Excalibur backline also shut down the Gaels offense during the stretch, largely in part to strong play from Chris Bascelli.

In the later stages of the second half the Queen's offense woke up when Henry Bloemen (Toronto) had a goal disallowed for being offside. As the game wound down, Chris Wellsman (Victoria) cut the ball back to the top of the box and found second-half substitute William Twardek (Ottawa), who knocked the ball off the inside of the post to make it 2-0 in the 75th minute.

Maxwell finished the game with 10 saves for a clean sheet, while his counterpart David Ellis made four saves in a losing effort.

The Gaels (1-1) are on the road again next week, taking on the Laurentian Voyageurs (2-1) on Saturday and the Nipissing Lakers (1-3) on Sunday. Both games get underway at 2:15pm.
