The Queen's Gaels are in action on numerous fronts this weekend. Here's a rundown of when and where to catch your Gaels in action.
GAME OF THE WEEK
Women's Soccer: In this week's special double-header game of the week, first up is the No. 2 women's soccer team taking on the Ryerson Rams. The Gaels enter the weekend once again holding down the number two spot in the country. The team narrowly missed out on taking the top spot as their rivals in Ottawa hold the No. 1 position with 44 points to the Gaels 43 in the voting. Queen's is coming off a 1-1 week with a 3-0 win over Laurentian in Sudbury followed up with a 1-1 draw with North Bay. Tara Bartram (Vancouver) is currently fifth in the OUA with five goals to lead all Gaels scorers on the season. The Gaels will look to top up their 4-0-2 first place IYA East division record against Ryerson who is 1-4-0 Saturday and Sunday with a match against Toronto who is 3-2-1. Both Games are at 1pm at West Campus Field in Kingston.
Men's Soccer:Â The men's soccer Gaels enter the weekend with a 2-1-1 record and a pair of wins can go a long way to help the team jump back up the OUA East standings and back into the CIS Top 10 list. Queen's hosts Ryerson on Saturday and Toronto on Sunday with the Saturday game being the game of the week. The Rams sit one spot above Queen's in the OUA East division with a 3-0-1 record for 10 points to the Gaels 7. Toronto sits two slots below Queen's with a 1-2-1 standing. Both matches are slated for 3:15pm starts at West Campus Field. Gaels striker Tommy Hong (Oakville, Ont.) is coming off a hot week for the Gaels, Hong finished with two goals in two games for the Gaels this past week as they made their way north to take on Laurentian and Nipissing earning a win and a draw.
Football:Â After an extra week of rest during the teams' bye week, Queen's Football is back in action this Saturday when they travel to Ottawa to take on the Gee-Gees. Ottawa is coming off a tough loss to the No. 2 Western Mustangs who put up 83 points at home to Ottawa. Queen's last played on September 7 at home where they beat Windsor 49-34. The Gaels slipped one spot in the CIS Top 10 standings and are now at No. 3.
Women's Rugby:Â Â Coming off another win the Gaels held their spot as the No. 3 team in the nation. Last weekend Queen's took down York on the road and will look for another road win this week as the team travels to Peterborough on Friday to take on the Trent Excalibur. Queen's has won eight straight games against Trent dating back to 2008 and will look to extend that mark Friday night.
Men's Rugby:Â After dismantling both Waterloo school's in their first two games of the year, the Gaels look to move to 3-0 when they visit their cross-town rivals RMC on Saturday afternoon at 3pm. Queen's has outscored their opponents 110-0 so far this season. Queen's has a 5-0 record against RMC over the last five seasons.
Cross Country: Both men's and women's teams performed well as they hosted the Queen's Invitational last weekend finishing in first place on both men's and women's sides. This weekend the team hits the road as they visit London, Ontario for the Western Invitational on Saturday morning.
Women's Hockey:Â The defending OUA champion women's hockey team hits the ice for the first time this season as they start up their exhibition play. On Friday the Gaels will host Concordia at a game in Belleville, Ontario and on Sunday Queen's will face off against McGill in Smith Falls, Ontario.
Men's Hockey: After falling in a shootout to RMC last Saturday 5-4 in the annual Lou Jeffries Exhibition game, the Gaels look to bounce back this weekend in a pair of exhibition games in London against Western and Waterloo.
Women's Volleyball: After a successful trip to New York a few weeks back where the team finished 3-1Â in the Victory Promotions tournament, Queen's will look to keep the wins coming when they head to Montreal to take part in the University of Montreal Invitational. The Gaels are slated for four games starting with UQAM on Friday, Sherbrooke on Saturday afternoon, York on Saturday night and Toronto on Sunday afternoon.
Women's Basketball: The Gaels hit the hard-court for their first exhibition matchup of the season as they visit St. Lawrence College on Sunday afternoon at 2pm.
