Four Gaels and both men's and women's Coaches to represent Queen's at OUA Soccer Showcase

HAMILTON, Ont. - The OUA soccer community will descend on the Ontario Soccer Association (OSA) Centre in Vaughan, Ont. this weekend to take part in the inaugural OUA Men's and Women's Soccer Showcase event. The weekend will be headlined by East versus West matchups on Saturday and Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. The women take to the pitch on Saturday, May 4th while the men will play on Sunday, May 5th.

The Gaels are well represented in the game, the women's CIS silver medal team boasts Alexis McKinty (Burlington, Ont.), Riley Filion (Alexandria, Ont.) and Jackie Tessier (Winnipeg) along with head coach Dave McDowell for the East Team.

On the men's side Henry Bloemen (Toronto) and head coach Chris Gencarelli will look for a win over their West division All-Star counterparts.

The event is designed to showcase Ontario University soccer to prospective student-athletes. Teams were selected and will be led by the OUA Final Four Coaches from 2012. Each East and West team will consists of all-stars and athlete representatives from OUA soccer teams.

The women's West Team is led by 2012 OUA West Division Player of the Year and former Rookie of the Year Emily Brown of the Laurier Golden Hawks, while Team East draws from a deep bench that includes five athletes who were recently selected to represent Canada at this summer's Universiade in Kazan, Russia.

On the men's side, two-time OUA West Player of the Year Adrien Pena will team up with members of repeat champion McMaster to challenge the East for bragging rights. However it won't be easy as Team East boasts the talents of East Division MVP Andrew Latty of the Carleton Ravens and rookie sensation Milos Scepanovic from the Ryerson Rams. Pena and Latty finished the 2012 season tied atop the OUA scoring race with 17 goals a piece, but Sunday's result may finally determine a clear 'Golden Boot' winner.

In addition to the OUA showcase games, coaches will have an opportunity to attend the OYSL Showcase and participate in a mini university fair to promote and recruit for their institution. OUA staff will also be conducting four seminars for prospective students to inform them about OUA soccer, recruitment, eligibility and athletic financial awards.
