Varsity Blues beat Gaels in Straight sets

BOX SCORE TORONTO (February 9, 2013) - The Queen's Gaels (12-5) lost in straight sets to the Toronto Varsity Blues (10-7) on Saturday afternoon with set scores finishing 25-23, 25-21, 25-22.

Colleen Ogilvie (Calgary) led all players on the day with 11 kills finsihing with 12.5 points. Katie Spadoni tallied 19 assists and nine digs on the day to lead the Gaels in both categories. Toronto was led by Charlotte Sider who finished with 10 kills on the day.

The Gaels were stride for stride with their counterparts from Toronto in each of the three sets but were unnable to come out on top despite close finishes in each frame. Queen's led in kills with a better percentage and fewer errors in the first set but Toronto got the final advantage winning 25-23. The final two sets finished just as close, with each team putting up similar kill totals and finishing with the same amount of errors in each of the final two sets. Toronto stayed ahead however and closed out the Gaels for the 3-0 win.

Queen's will wrap up their regular season tomorrow as they take on the Ryerson Rams at 2 pm in Toronto.
