BOX SCORE OTTAWA (Febraury 13, 2013) - The Queen's Gaels and No. 9 Carleton Ravens opened their best-of-three OUA playoff matchup on Thursday night in Ottawa. Carleton used a four goal first period lead to beat Queen's 10-2 and take a 1-0 series lead.
Jeff Hayes (Ottawa) had a four point night to lead the Ravens and
Joey Derochie (Sudbury, Ont.) finished with a goal and an assist for Queen's in the loss.
Carleton wasted no time getting on the scoresheet as they scored two quick goals to start the game at 12 seconds and 90 seconds into the opening period. The Ravens would add two more before the period was out, chasing Gaels starting net minder
Riley Whitlock (Calgary).
The second period saw Whitlock back in net for the Gaels and Carleton tack on three more goals to the Gaels one. The first three second period goals came within 18 seconds of each other with the Gaels goal coming from Derochie.
Corey Bureau (Amherstview, Ont.) and
Stephane Chabot (Rockland, Ont.) added assists on the Gaels goal.
The Ravens closed the game out in the third with three more goals, while
Jordan Soquila (Maple Ridge, B.C.) scored for Queen's to bring the game to a 10-2 final for Carleton.
Whitlock and
David Aime (Clandeboye, Man.) combined to stop 27 shots while Ryan Dube (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) stopped 17 of 19 shots for the win.
The Gaels will look to even up the series back at home when they host the Ravens on Friday night at the Cataraqui Arena in Kingston. Game time is set for 7:30PM.
