Gaels lose 3-1 to Ryerson

BOX SCORE TORONTO (February 10, 2013)  – The Queen's Gaels women's volleyball team (12-5) fell  3-1 (30-28, 15-25, 23-25,12-25) to the Ryerson Rams (13-4) in OUA women's volleyball action on Sunday. The Gaels hold down the fourth spot in the OUA standings while Ryerson jumps ahead to third.

The Gaels came out strong from the first point of the first set. The Rams responded with a series of points of their own to shorten the gap but could not hold off the Gaels attacks, eventually losing 30-28. The second set started out strong for both teams as they gradually won individual points and at times the outcome could have gone either way, but the Rams managed to pull ahead and steal the win from the Gaels.  

Come the third set, the Gaels performed well as a team but it was not enough as Ryerson was able to close out the third set  25-23 The Gaels were unable to continue their momentum in the fourth set, allowing Ryerson to close out the fourth set and match with 25-12 win.
 
The Gaels saw top performance on the day from Colleen Oglivie (Calgary) who had 13 kills on 36 attacks, along with 17 digs. Oglivie contributed 16 points to the Gaels overall 62.  Anna Pedjase (Waterloo, Ont.) contributed 36 assists to the Gaels effort, while Brett Hagerty (Aurora, Ont.) had a game high of 20 digs. 

Leading the Rams were Chelsea Briscoe (Georgetown, Ont.) who had 15 kills from 36 attacks, Emily Varga (Rodney, Ont.) with 16 digs and Lauren Ebenhardt (Aurora, Ont.) with 40 assists.

The Gaels now move on to the OUA playoffs where they will host a quarterfinal match against the Toronto Varsity Blues at the ARC in Kingston as they look to defend their 2012 OUA Championship title.
