BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. (February 1, 2013) – The Queen's Gaels (6-11) women's basketball team was in action Friday evening against the No. 5 Carleton Ravens, whose strong three point shooting gave them a convincing 90-54 win. The Ravens were shooting 44% from beyond the arc at half allowing Carleton to build a convincing lead going into the final few quarters.

Queen's starting guard Liz Boag (Kingston, Ont.), who recently returned to the Gaels lineup in last weekends road trip to Toronto, was able to put Queen's on the board first with a mid-range jumper. The Ravens quickly answered going on a 9-0 run of their own with all of Carleton's starters contributing offensively to the run. Boag was able to help the Gaels battle back knocking down her first three-pointer of the night. However the Queen's could not answer the Ravens strong perimeter shooting as forward Darcy Hawkins (Merrickville, Ont.) hit back-to-back three balls early in the game, making a strong presence. The Gaels star guard, Boag, was again able to make a three-pointer but a timely three from Ravens guard Elizabeth Roach (Ottawa) followed by a lay-up helped Carleton close out the first, 24-10.

Hawkins was quick to get the Ravens back on the board in the second quarter, taking the ball to the net. Carleton continued to utilize their size in the second quarter, scoring all of their 20 second quarter points from inside the key. Queen's was able to stay within the game with a series of three-point shots from sophomore wing Jenny Wright (Kingston, Ont.) and Boag. Wright was named the Domino's 'Dominator of the Game' recording a team high 14 points and four assists.

In the third the Gaels were able to find their scoring touch and make a frantic push to climb back in the match. Third-year guard Lisa Minutillo (Brantford, Ont.) knocked down a deep three for Queen's, followed by a Sydney Kernahan (Calgary, Alta.) and-one play and a series of free throws from Wright. Minutillo then hit her second three-pointer of the game, with Wright following the scoring up with three points via the hoop-and-harm. Minutillo then proceeded to hit her third three of the quarter with Emily Hazlett (Fredericton) and Wright closing out the quarter with a series of free throws. The Gaels outscored the Ravens 23-16 in the third, trailing by only 13 heading into the final frame.

The fourth quarter featured more strong play at both ends of the court from Carleton. Kendall MacLeod (Brockville, Ont.) knocked down two three-pointers, with Alyson Bush (Ottawa) adding two additional three balls and Lindsay Shotbolt (Markham, Ont.) also pitching in a three. The Ravens were able to close out the game, outscoring the Gaels 30-6 in the fourth frame.

The Queen's Gaels women's basketball team hopes to break their recent skid when they host the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday evening. Tip-off is set for 6pm at the ARC Main Gym.
