Gaels win marathon first set en route to 3-2 victory at Ryerson

BOX SCORE TORONTO (November 22, 2013)- Queen's beat Ryerson 32-30 in the opening set, going on to win in five sets, 32-30, 16-25, 27-25, 16-25, and 15-12 on the road Friday night.
 
Brett Hagarty (Aurora, Ont.) slammed a team-high 17 kills to the floor, and also led the Gaels in digs with 12. Shannon Hopkins (North Vancouver) and Gabrielle Down (Kelowna, B.C.) had 11 kills apiece, with Katie Hagarty's (Aurora, Ont.) 10 digs rounding out the Gaels notable defensive efforts. At the net, Kelsey Bishop (North Vancouver) and Niki Slikboer (Seagrove, Ont.) put up three solo blocks each.
 
A turning point for the Gaels came at the technical timeout of the third set, with the Rams leading 16-9. Queen's tied the set at 17-17 before taking it 27-25.
 
Ryerson's Emily Nicholishen led all players with 22 points, on 18 kills, three solo blocks, and one service ace.
 
The Gaels continue their road action Saturday night at 8pm versus Toronto.
