Gaels sweep RMC 3-0 in Women’s Volleyball Action

BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. (January 25, 2013) - The Queen's Gaels (11-2) women's volleyball team swept RMC (2-11) in straight sets, 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-21).

The Gaels had a strong first set with 12 kills to RMC's three. The second set saw RMC clawing their way back into the game narrowing the point difference to four. The Gaels however had a game high of 15 kills and 35 attempts which allowed them to take control of the second set resulting in a 25-21 win. RMC continued to fight in hopes of winning the final set, but the Gaels managed to snag the win 25-21 with 13 kills.

Colleen Ogilvie (Calgary, Alta.) led the Gaels with a game high of 22 points, Ogilvie also had a game high of 19 kills. Both Brett Hagarty (Aurora, Ont.) and Katie Hagarty (Aurora, Ont.) had 11 digs each for the Gaels, while Ali Shamie (Toronto, Ont.) contributed nine assists to the Gaels victory.  For RMC, Norah Collins (Cedar Valley,Ont.) had a team high of nine points with 14 digs, while Brianne Baum (Penetanguishe, Ont.) contributed 11 assists.

This win keeps the Gaels in the third position of the OUA with a 11-2 record.

The Gaels return to action Sunday January 27th against the No. 7 University of Ottawa Gee-Gees at 2 p.m. in Ottawa.
