| By:
BOX SCORE LONDON, Ont. (January 19, 2013) - The Queen's Gaels (10-2) women's volleyball team displayed a disciplined effort along with offensive consistency that allowed them to sweep the Western Mustangs (7-5) in straight sets, 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-21).

The Gaels had a strong first set, with Katie Hagarty (Aurora, Ont.) and Kelsey Bishop (North Vancouver, B.C.) providing an early spark for Queen's, helping to push the Gaels into an early lead and a comfortable start to the match.

The second set saw Western fighting their way back into the game, narrowing the point difference to six, though the Gaels stayed the course and were able to come out on top. The third set saw a more aggressive attack from the Mustangs, but again the Gaels managed to snag the win 25-21, with a match high of 13 kills coming in the final set.

Katie Hagarty led all the attackers with 11 kills against Western's strong defensive line, also winning 13.5 points for the Gaels. Katie Spadoni (Hamilton, Ont.) led the team in assists contributing 33 to the Gaels victory. For Western Rebecca Oxland (North Vancouver, B.C.) had nine kills, Suzanna Campbell (Penticton, B.C.) contributed 18 assists and Stephanie Kantzos (London, Ont.) led the Mustangs with 14 digs.

"Katie Spadoni ran an effective offense for us giving our hitters a lot of opportunities to score. This was the first start for this second year setter," said head coach Joely Christian-Macfarlane. "It was a great overall team performance both offensively and defensively helping us capture the match in three straight sets."

This win moves the Gaels into third place of the OUA with a 10-2 record while Waterloo moves to fifth position, at 7-5.

The Gaels return to action next Friday January 25th against RMC at 8 p.m
