Field Hockey Faces a Tough Start in Regulation Play

| By:
This past weekend (Sept. 15/16) the Queen's Field Hockey team played their first regular-season games in Waterloo. The girls suffered a tough loss against Western on Saturday in their first game with a score of 2-1. The Queen's goal was scored by Amber Halcovitch (Apsley, Ont.), and assisted by Lindsay Bjorson (Vancouver, B.C.) and Morgan Bignell (Peterborough, Ont.). They dominated possession for the majority of the game with two unlucky breaks. Unfortunately, they couldn't find the back of the net to make it a win. However, they have taken what they need from the game to ensure that doesn't happen again.
On Sunday morning the girls played Toronto, one of the top teams in the OUA, and suffered another loss (7-0). The team is still very optimistic about the upcoming season and are anticipating stronger and more focused play this weekend in Toronto at Varsity Stadium, where they will face Guelph (Saturday at 12:30 p.m.), York (Sunday at 9 a.m.) and McGill (Sunday at 2:15 p.m.).
