Gaels finish weekend with victory over University of Toronto Varsity Blues

BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. – The Queen's Gaels women's volleyball team came away with a home victory, 3-1, (19-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-20) against the University of Toronto Varsity Blues on Sunday at the ARC Main Gym.
   
The Gaels lost the first set, falling behind early after a Varsity Blues 7-3 run. Queen's climbed back within two points, but could not find an answer to University of Toronto's strong front line. Blues' middle Shannon Rossall (Calgary, Alta.) finished out the first set with a powerful hit.
 
In the second set Queen's utilized effective passing and powerful attacks to narrowly beat U of T 25-22. The Gaels setter, Anna Pedjase was very effective setting up the offensive for the Gaels recording 45 assists on the game
 
The third and fourth sets featured impressive efforts from the Neville sisters. Middle blocker Katie Neville (Cambridge, Ont.) was the game's most valuable player, recording 10 kills and a team-high seven blocks. Katie was noteworthy in the third set when she recorded four blocks and closed out the set with a well placed attack. In the fourth set it was her sister, Shannon, (Cambridge, Ont.) who was effective. She recorded six kills and six digs, and wrapped the match up with a heavy attack that the Blues could not return.
 
Gaels libero Shannon Walsh (Perth Road, Ont.) was the game leader with 22 digs. She was very effective in receiving U of T's difficultly placed attacks.
 
The Gaels next OUA matchup is Friday, when they visit the Guelph Gryphons in Guelph. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
