Queen's loses nail-biter to Ryerson Rams in OUA women's volleyball

| By:
BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. – The Queens Gaels women's volleyball team came up just short in a nail-biter that went five sets, as Ryerson won 3-2 (25-21, 25-23, 24-26, 20-25, 15-9).

The Gaels fell behind 2-0 after dropping the first two sets 21-25 and 23-25, respectively. The Gaels kept the first two sets close with strong efforts from Kelsey Bishop (North Vancouver, B.C.) who recorded 14 kills on 31 attacks, and Brett Hagarty (Aurora, Ont.), who was the game leader with 15 digs.

Queen's put in a commanding effort in the third and fourth sets, forcing the game to a deciding fifth set. The third set was the most exciting of the game with three lead changes, and most of the set being even. Queen's capitalized on Rams errors and were efficient offensively, led by Colleen Ogilvie (Calgary, Alta.) who put up 18 kills.

In the fifth set, the Rams got off to a quick start, 5-2, that the Gaels could not come back from. They kept it close, however attacking errors, and a strong Rams offense lead by outside-hitter Veronica Livingston (Kelowna, B.C) who recorded 18 kills on 37 attacks, proved too much for Queens.

The Gaels next OUA match-up is Sunday, when they host the Toronto Varsity Blues. Game time is set for noon at the ARC Main Gym.
